SSC, Dakhil examinees among eight dead

Eight people were killed, including an SSC and a Dakhil examinee, on their way to examination centres, and four others injured in road accidents in five districts on Sunday and yesterday.

Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, three women were killed as a speeding vehicle ran them over on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Mirsarai upazila early yesterday.

The three -- Sajeda Begum, 47, Peyara Akhter, 65, and Peyara Begum, 42, who hailed from Kashinagar village in Bijoynagar of Brahmanbaria -- went to Mirsarai to join a religious programme at a shrine.

They might have been killed by a heavy vehicle like lorry or truck while crossing the highway around 1:00am, said Jorarganj highway police.

Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, Abdul Motin, a councillor of Setabganj municipality, was killed on the spot and four others were injured as a microbus carrying them collided head-on with a truck on Bochaganj-Dinajpur road near Bottoli in Bochaganj upazila on Sunday night.

The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In Parbatipur upazila, Abu Musa, 18, son of Obaidul Islam, died as a truck hit his motorcycle on the upazila bypass road in Sundaripara area yesterday.

He succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, Monira Khatun, an SSC examinee, was killed as a tractor hit an auto-rickshaw by which she was going to an examination centre yesterday.

She succumbed to her injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, Ali Akbar, 65, a teacher of Nawyana Dakhil Madrasa, died after an auto-rickshaw carrying him overturned on a road in Kalai Bazar area yesterday.

He died on the way to Kalai Upazila Health Complex.

Our Bogra correspondent adds, Hafizur Rahman, 15, a Dakhil examinee of Shabrul Dakhil Madrasa in Shajahanpur upazila, was killed as a bus bit him on Malancha-Ranirhat road in Kahaloo upazila yesterday.

He was waiting for a bus to reach an exam centre, police quoted witnesses as saying.
