Sher-e-Bangla's birthday today

Today is the 144th birthday of AK Fazlul Huq, known as Sher-e-Bangla.

On the occasion, Barisal Divisional Association will place wreaths at the great leader's grave in the morning, said a press release. Later, a discussion will be held at his mazar.

On this day in 1873, Huq was born in Saturia of erstwhile Bakerganj, now Jhalakathi district. He obtained his BL degree in 1897 from the University Law  College.

Huq was elected to the Bengal Legislative Council and was appointed as the education minister in 1924.

In 1943, he was elected prime minister of Bengal during the British rule. From 1956 to 1958, he was governor of East Pakistan. Huq died in 1962.b
