Shariatpur war crimes suspect denied bail

Court asks jail authorities to provide treatment, defers till Dec 22 decision on taking four charges into cognisance

International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday rejected a bail petition of one of two war crimes accused of Shariatpur and asked the jail authorities to provide him treatment.

With one judge unable to take part in proceedings due to illness, the tribunal also deferred to December 22 to decide on whether to take into cognisance four specific charges against the duo.

A counsel of Sulaiman Mollah, 84, the alleged founder of Peace Committee and Razakar Bahini in Shariatpur, moved the bail petition citing his poor health and old age on November 16.

That day the prosecution pressed the charges against Sulaiman, and Edris Ali Sarder alias Gazi Edris, 67, for their alleged involvement in crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
