Immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport did not allow journalist Shafik Rehman to go abroad today.

Shafik Rehman was scheduled to fly to the UK by a Turkish Airlines this morning to see his wife, who is undergoing treatment in London, his personal assistant Sajib Onasis told The Daily Star.

“But the immigration police did not allow him to board the flight around 7:00 am,” he said.

An immigration police official confirmed the matter but he could not elaborate to this end. “He [Shafik Rehman] has been refused. But I do not know details of it,” he said wishing anonymity.

Shafik Rehman is now on bail in a case filed for his alleged attempt to abduct and murder prime minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He walked out of Kashimpur jail in Gazipur on September 6 last year, five months into arrest in the case.
