Awami League’s Narayanganj mayor candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has urged Shamim Osman to focus on serving the people instead of campaigning for her.

Her response came hours after Shamim Osman broke the ice and spoke of quitting his parliament membership to campaign for Ivy if necessary.

“Shamin Osman is a member of the parliament. Why he will resign? He has to work for the interest of the people,” Ivy said in a press briefing at Narayanganj this evening.

A long standing conflict is said to be prevailing between Shamim Osman of the influential Osman family of Narayanganj and Selina Hayat Ivy, the former mayor.

Awami League has nominated Selina Hayat Ivy, the last mayor of Narayanganj city, to run for the post again in the elections slated to be held on December 22.

Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reportedly instructed her party men to extend her all-out support where Narayanganj’s leaders including Shamim Osman were present.

Silent till then, Shamim Osman today extended support for Ivy and said Awami League will start campaign for her from tomorrow.

“Many leaders of the ruling Awami League will take part in the campaign in favour of the boat symbol with self enthusiasm from tomorrow,” Ivy said.
