Sedition case filed against AL's Latif over doctoring Bangabandhu's photo

Another case filed under ICT act

Two cases including one for sedition were filed against Awami League lawmaker MA Latif yesterday, over his alleged involvement in tampering with the photo of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate, with which the cases were filed, took the cases into cognisance and ordered investigation, said lawyers of the complainants.

The other case was filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, for spreading the manipulated photo.

Vice President of Chittagong city AL AKM Belayet Hossain lodged the sedition case against Latif, while former Jubo League leader Saifudddin Ahmed Rabi filed the other case, accusing Latif and three others -- designer Kabir Hossain of Haider Printers and Computers in the port city and its two staff Rajib Das and Md Amzad.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Chittagong on January 30, Latif put up festoons and banners in Bandar and Patenga areas with an image, in which Bangabandhu's head was superimposed on the body of Latif.

The lawmaker denied involvement, and blamed the designer, Kabir, who said it was his fault, not the lawmaker's.
