Security to be tightened on Xmas, New Year's Eve

The government yesterday banned outdoor programmes including rallies, processions and cultural events after 6:00pm on December 31 for security on New Year's Eve.

Afterwards, indoor programmes will be allowed on prior permission from law enforcers. Besides, all liquor stores must be closed.

The decisions came from a meeting on Christmas Day and December 31 chaired by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his ministry.

Kamal told journalists that the government arranged tight security measures countrywide to avoid any kind of untoward incident.

Security measures will cover all 62 churches in Dhaka on Xmas Day on December 25, Kamal said, adding that traffic management would also be controlled.
