Search body reflects AL's will

Pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers' white panel of Dhaka University yesterday termed formation of the search committee to constitute a new Election Commission a reflection of the desire of the Awami League-led government.

“The search body won't serve the people's interests as it is the outcome of manifestation of the incumbent government,” said a release signed by the panel's joint conveners Prof Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan and Prof ABM Obaidul Islam.

The statement reads, “The search committee has been formed as a blueprint with a scope for the government to stay in power through forming an obedient Election Commission.”

They demanded that the president reform the search body by including accepted and neutral persons in it.
