A ninth grader died this morning after being hacked allegedly by his friends in West Shewrapara of Dhaka’s Mirpur last night.

Deceased Sajib Mia, 16, son of Abdur Rashid of the area succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 8:30am, police said.

He was a student of Holy Crescent School and College of West Shewrapara branch, Md Raju, the victim’s elder brother said.

Family members said that three-four boys led by one Shourav and Rubel hacked Sajib with machetes when he went outside of home for shopping at a local kitchen market around 10:30pm.

Sajib was wounded in his right arm and back of his body.

Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said that they detained Rubel and interrogated him in connection with the incident.

“Primarily, we think the attack followed a previous feud among the teens,” the OC said.

No case has been filed so far to this end, Nazrul said, adding that police are trying to detain the other attackers.
