SCC removes illegal publicity materials

The Sylhet City Corporation in a drive removed around 1,200 illegal banners, festoons and placards from several important points of the city in last two days.

Hanifur Rahman, chief conservancy officer of SCC, said the banners and other publicity materials are destroying the beauty of the city so they have started the drive on Tuesday to eliminate all of them.

Most of these publicity materials are of political parties, locals said.

Enamul Habib, chief executive officer of SCC, said “There is a provision in the city corporation act that everyone must get permission paying fees to put up publicity materials like banners.”

“However, nobody takes permission”, he added.
