Faruk Killing

SC wants MP Rana to apear before court

The Supreme Court yesterday asked the authorities concerned to produce Tangail's Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana before the trial court on the day of hearing of the case filed for killing freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed.

The SC passed the order after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that he heard MP Rana, now in jail, was not produced before the lower court on the scheduled date of hearing.

The attorney general said this when the SC was hearing a petition filed by MP Rana for modification of its May 8 order.

On that day, (May 8) the SC stayed for four months a High Court order that had granted bail to Rana in the case. The apex court also asked the trial court to finish the trial proceedings of Faruk Ahmed murder case in six months.

Yesterday, the SC also kept the modification petition, in which Rana sought bail in the case, stand over (waiting for hearing) till October 15.

The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013.

Later, a murder case was filed in this connection.
