SC upholds bail to Ragib Ali, son

The Supreme Court yesterday upheld a High Court order that granted bail to industrialist Ragib Ali and his son Abdul Hye who were convicted of forging legal documents for grabbing an endowed property in Sylhet.

The SC dismissed a leave to appeal petition filed by the government challenging the HC order of bail.

There is no legal bar to the release of Ragib Ali and Abdul Hye from Sylhet jail following the apex court order, their lawyer Barrister Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

A Sylhet court on February 2 this year handed down six years' imprisonment to each of the father-son duo for fabricating legal documents of Tarapur Tea Estate.
