SC stays MP Rana's bail

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed for four months the High Court order that granted bail to Tangail's Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed killing case.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing a government petition seeking stay on the HC order.

Following a bail petitoion filed by Rana, the HC on April 13 granted ad-interim bail to Rana and also issued a rule asking the government to explain why he should not be granted regular bail in this case. Later, the government moved an appeal before the Appellate Division of the SC for staying the HC order.

The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed.
