SC stays Minar’s bail in Ekramul killing case

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed a High Court verdict, which granted bail to Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque killing case, till December 4.

Following a government petition moved by Additional Attorney General Murad Reza, Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also sent the stay petition to the full bench of the apex court for its hearing on December 4.

Ekram, 45, also the president of Awami League upazila unit, was shot and burnt to death in his car in Feni town's Academy area on May 20, 2014.

Rezaul Haque Jasim, victim’s brother, filed the murder case with Feni Model Police Station the same day, accusing Mahtab and 30 to 35 anonymous people.

The HC on November 24 granted permanent bail to the BNP leader.
