MBBS Admission

SC stays HC ruling over 2nd time candidates

The Supreme Court yesterday froze a High Court order that stayed the mark deduction for applicants retaking the medical college admission test.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed the HC order until October 3, three days before the scheduled MBBS admission tests.

Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the order. He also asked the government to file a leave to appeal petition with the SC challenging the HC order and fixed October 3 for hearing the petition.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star that the apex court will pass an order on October 3 and it will be known on that day (October 3) whether the mark of second time medical admission seekers will be deducted or not.

The HC on Tuesday stayed a government decision to deduct marks from second time admission seekers in response to a writ petition that termed the penalty discriminatory.

The MBBS admission test is scheduled for October 6. For dental colleges, the admission test is scheduled for November 10.
