The Supreme Court today extended a stay on High Court bail order to Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque murder case, till April 1.

The Appellate Division of the SC passed the order after hearing a government petition moved by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

A four-member bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha also asked the government to submit a leave-to-appeal petition with the apex court against the HC order by April 1.

Earlier on March 5, the apex court stayed for a week the HC order that granted bail to Minar in the murder case on March 2.

Ekram, 45, also the president of the upazila unit of Awami League, was shot and burnt to death in his car in the Academy area in Feni on May 20 last year.

Rezaul Haque Jasim, victim’s brother, filed the murder case with Feni Model Police Station the same day, accusing Mahtab and 30 to 35 anonymous people.
