SC adjourns hearing on DNCC by-polls

The Supreme Court yesterday adjourned the hearing of two separate appeals regarding Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls.

The appeals were filed by the Election Commission (EC) seeking a stay on the High Court orders that halted the election for six months. 

The HC stayed the polls on January 17, and issued two rules asking the EC and the government to explain why the schedule should not be declared illegal.

The EC petitioned against the stay on January 31, and the apex court was scheduled to hear the appeals yesterday.
