RU teacher assaulted by student

A teacher of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Rajshahi University was assaulted by a student yesterday afternoon.

According to the IBA sources, Nahid Haider, a student of the ninth batch, was doing internship under the supervision of Prof Hasnath Ali, and yesterday was the last day for submitting internship reports.

Yesterday, Nahid called his professor as he was not in his office room. An altercation started as the professor arrived late and at one point Nahid punched him in the face, said Prof Hasnath.

The teacher further said he had asked Nahid to meet him on Sunday, but he did not show up.

On the other hand, Nahid claimed that he beat up the professor as he verbally abused him and made derogatory remarks about his parents during the altercation.  The professor denied it.

Prof Rafiqul Islam, director of IBA, said Nahid was handed over to Motihar police and a general diary was filed in this regard.

Meanwhile, the academic committee during an emergency meeting formed a four-member team to investigate the incident and suspended Nahid's report submission.

The academic committee also submitted a letter to the registrar with a request to take legal actions against the student.
