RU sees nearly twofold rise in applications

DU 'Kha' unit results published

The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have sold a record number of application forms of undergraduate admission tests this year, nearly a twofold rise from last year.

A total of 3,16,120 applications were received against 4,700 seats available at 57 departments under nine faculties and two institutes, said Prof Provash Kumar Karmakar, administrator of public relations office.

This means, some 67 admission seekers will compete for one seat.

Online application for the admission testsfor2017-18 academic session opened on September 10 and closed on Sunday night. "C" unit (science) received the highest number of applications (49,174).

According to the RU administration, the authorities received 1,78,948 applications in the 2015-16 session while 1,60,682 applications in 2014-15 session.

RU Student Advisor Prof Zannatul Ferdous said, “This year, we have reinstated the system allowing admission seekers to sit for the entrance test for a second time which was scrapped in 2015-16 session.''

This is one of the reasons such a huge number of candidates applied, he added.

The entrance tests will be held from October 22 to 26. Details will be available on RU website at http://admission.ru.ac.bd.

DU 'KHA' UNIT RESULTS

Nearly 17 percent of the candidates secured pass marks in the admission tests held under Dhaka University's 'Kha' unit (humanities) for 2017-18 academic session.

DU acting vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman announced the results at the central admission office on the campus around 12:30pm.

As many as 5,188 students out of 31,336 came out successful against 2,363 seats.

The results can be viewed on the university website admission.eis.du.ac.bd or via short message service (SMS) sent from mobile phones of any operator.

For SMS, one should type “DU KHA <roll number>” and send it to 16321.

Selected students have been asked to fill in subject selection forms between September 28 and October 10 on the university website.

The viva voce of the selected students will be held on October 22 at the dean office of arts faculty.
