‘Rohingya’ held for trying to get passport

Police detained a woman on suspicion of being Rohingya trying to make passport using fake documents in Chittagong regional passport office yesterday.

The detainee is Mosshammat Arju, 24, daughter of Hasan Ali, as per her documents. Another woman who was accompanying her was also detained.

Assistant Director (AD) Azizul Islam of Chittagong regional passport office, Panchlasih, told The Daily Star that suspicion grew as Arju in her documents introduced herself as a resident of Boalkhali upazila but her accent and behaviour was different.

Some staffs, who belonged to Boalkhali, questioned Arju when she revealed that she resided in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar.

“We suspect that a syndicate might have sent the woman to get Bangladeshi passport and the other detainee was its member,” said the AD.
