Robbers kill night guards, loot 3 shops

A group of armed robbers yesterday killed two night guards and looted valuables worth Tk 27 lakh from three shops at a market in Bandar upazila in Narayanganj, police said.

The victims Raihan Miah, 65, and Motaleb Hossain, 55, were killed in Lakshmankhola Madrasa market area. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.

Shahin Mondal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, said the two were killed for resisting the robbery.

They were attacked with locally made weapons. One of the victims died on the spot and the other was injured critically, the OC added. The latter succumbed to his injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The robbers broke into Bismillah Battery Store, Satata Mela Battery, and Satata Battery Servicing Centre and looted cash and valuables worth Tk 27 lakh, the OC said quoting the owners.

No case was lodged till filing of this report yesterday. However, police are trying to arrest the robbers.
