Road crashes kill six

Six people were killed and 17 others injured in road accidents in the country yesterday and Saturday.

Our Pabna correspondent reports, two persons were killed and five others injured when a Pabna-bound bus in an attempt to overtake first hit a three-wheeler and then a motorbike on Pabna-Rajshahi highway at Mozidpur intersection on Sunday afternoon.

The dead are Rokon Ali, 45, and Samrat Hossain, 30. The injured were admitted to Pabna General Hospital. Of them, motorcyclist Polash Hossain was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Our Dinajpur correspondent adds, a bicyclist was killed while 10 bus passengers were injured when the bus overturned after hitting the bicycle near Boiragipara in Mithapukur upazila of Dinajpur on Sunday.

The deceased was Manik Mia, 35, of village Payraband. The injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In another accident, a woman was killed and her elder brother injured when a truck hit them on Dinajpur-Thakurgaon road at Basherhat.

The deceased is Nishi Aktar, 21, of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. The injured is Arman Hossain.

Our Chittagong staff correspondent adds, a motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider injured when the former lost his control over the bike while riding through Aktaruzzaman flyover in Chittagong city early yesterday.

The deceased, Md Ridwan, 20, of Satkania upazila, was a cloth trader of the city's Terry Bazar. His friend Mahfuj was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Our Faridpur correspondent adds, Robayet Islam, 32, of Miapara area in Gopalganj town, died after he lost control over his motorbike and hit a tree beside Gopalganj-Takerhat road at Konshu in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Saturday.
