Road crashes kill six

Six people were killed and 12 others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday and on Sunday.

In Gopalganj, a man was killed when a three-wheeler ran him over while he was crossing the Gopalganj-Tungipara road in Khalak Bazar area of Tungipara upazila on Sunday night.

The deceased is Abul Kalam, 60, of Ramchandropur village the upazila, said police.

In Patuakhali Sadar, a college student was killed and his two friends were injured as an ambulance from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle on Patuakhali-Kuakata road in Karonjatala area on Sunday evening.

The deceased Jahidul Islam Mithu, 22, of Gounadi upazila was a second-year student of Gournadi Government College. He died on the spot.

The injured -- Arif and Tahsan of the area -- are undergoing treatment at Patuakhali General Hospital, said police.

In Habiganj, two people were killed when a microbus hit a stationed truck in front of Olipur City Park on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Shaestaganj upazila yesterday, reports BSS.

The deceased are Bacchu Miah, 55, of Jatrapasa village under Baniachong upazila and Ashik Miah, 20, a resident of the same area.

Officer-in-Charge of Shaestaganj Highway Police Station M Jasim Uddin said the accident occurred when the driver of the microbus lost his control over the vehicle.

Five people were also injured in the accident, said the OC.

The injured were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

In Narsingdi, two persons were killed and five others injured as a truck collided head-on with a microbus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Gakulnagar area under Raipura upazila early yesterday, reports BSS.

The deceased are identified as microbus driver Mohsin Miah, 35, of Shibpur upazila in the district and its passenger Jewel, 35, a resident of Araihajar upazila in Narayanganj. They died on the spot.

Police said the injured were sent to a local hospital.
