Road crashes kill 5

Five people were killed and 11 others injured in road accidents in the country yesterday and Monday.

Our Faridpur correspondent reports, three people were killed and 11 others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus of Sonar Tori Paribahan veered out of control and rammed into two roadside shops in Vabukdia bazar area of Dangi union in Nagarkanda upazila around 10:00am yesterday.

The dead were Wazad Chokder, 68, of Gangi-Nagarkanda village, Mahirunasha, 60, of Bangalkanda village, and Saykander Munshi, 65, of Gangi village. The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Agitated locals blocked the road for two and a half hours. Later, police brought the situation under control.

Our Jhalakathi correspondent adds, Nazem Sardar, 70, of Gobindo Dabol village in sadar upazila, died on the spot as a motorcycle hit him when he was crossing a road near his house.

Meanwhile, a player of the district cricket team under-18, Md Mehedi Hasan, 18, son of Abdul Latif Howlader of Kirtipasha of the same upazila, died after a four-wheeler he was travelling by overturned at Sharengal.

He died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Monday night.
