Road crashes kill five

Two women were killed as a car ran them over before it fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chandina of Comilla yesterday.

The deceased were Nurjahan, 50, of Bagur in Debidwar upazila and Parul Begum, 40, of Modhomtola. Parul's five-year-old son Rafi was injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police said the incident occurred as the driver of the car lost his control over the vehicle. He fled after the incident.

Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Illiotganj Highway police outpost, said Parul and Nurjahan went to the Chandina bus stand in the morning to see off Parul's younger brother Jakir Hossain who left for Saudi Arabia yesterday. Both the women died on the spot.

Our Benapole correspondent reports, three people were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between a Bus and a human-hauler on Jessore-Jhenaidah road in Santola area of Jessore Sadar yesterday.

The deceased were Lavlu Dhali, 35, his brother Jakir Hossain Dhali, 32, of Fulsara village and Farid Hossain, 28, of Chowgacha upazila in the district.

Illias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said Lavlu and Farid died on the spot while Jakir died on the way to hospital. The injured were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
