Two Bangladeshis die in UAE road accident

Seven people were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in five districts yesterday and on Monday.

In Barisal, three people were killed as a car hit a roadside tree near Kamini Petrol Pump at Rahamatpur on Barisal Dhaka highway yesterday.

Two of the deceased were Samir Mali Mihir of Kalashkathi and Monir Hossain of Sagardi in Barisal city. They died on the spot.

Another victim, whose identity could not be known immediately, died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital later.

In Kurigram Sadar, two people were killed as a bus hit their motorcycle on Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Muktarum village of Belgachha on Monday night.

The deceased were Sumon Kumar Dash, 28, of Dashpara village and Utpal Chandra Dash, 22, of Majhipara village. Utpal was a first-year honours-student of chemistry in Kurigram Government College.

Utpal died on the spot while Sumon died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital yesterday morning.

In Kishoreganj, a college student was killed as a pick-up van rammed his motorcycle on Bhairab-Kishoreganj road in Kathmohal area of Katiadi upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Sajjadul Islam Sajid, 17, of Katiadi municipal area. He was an HSC-student of Katiadi Degree College.

In Dinajpur, Ibrahim Ali, 30, of Chandpara village was killed as a truck hit his bicycle on Dinajpur-Bogra highway near Raniganj area of Ghoraghat upazila yesterday.

In Jamalpur, seven people were injured when a human-hauler carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch and turned turtle after it collided head-on with a goods-laden truck in front of PDB office in Sarishabari upazila yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, our staff correspondent reports, two Bangladeshi migrant workers were killed and three others injured in a road accident in the United Arab Emirates (the UAE) yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahim, 42, and Alamgir, 45. Both hailed from Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong.

AKM Mizanur Rahman, first secretary (labour) at Bangladesh embassy in Dhabi, said the accident occurred around 7:30am (UAE local time) at Ras Al Khaimah area when the driver lost his control over the vehicle and knocked with an electricity pole.

Of the injured, Azim from Hathajari of Chittagong is undergoing treatment at Al Sakar Hospital in Dubai while the two others took first aid.

All of them were going to their workplaces.
