Road accidents leave eight dead

Eight others injured

Atleast six people were killed in separate road accidents in four districts yesterday.

In Dhaka, Salauddin Bhuiyan Rahel, 27, and Rasel Akon, 25, were killed and another injured when a covered van rammed their motorcycle in Gendaria area, said Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Police seized the covered-van and detained its driver Jasim, 22, from the spot, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gendaria Police Station. 

Our Pabna correspondent reports, Samsuddin Kamal, 55, and Solaiman Hossain, 60, were killed and three others suffered injuries when a bus hit a three wheeler in Dashuria point of Dhaka-Kushtia highway. 

The duo died on the spot and the bus driver managed to flee, said Md Nazmul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Pakshey highway Police Station.

Meanwhile in Rangpur, motorcyclist Shariful Islam, 35 was killed on the Badarganj-Rangpur road by a speeding tractor, killing him on spot, reports our local correspondent quoting witnesses.

An auto-rickshaw driver Md Mohiuddin, 30, and passenger Najimuddin were injured when their three-wheeler collided head on with a bus at Shershah area under Baijid Police Station of the port city, police said.

The injured were rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the on duty doctors declared Mohiuddin dead, our local correspondent quoted police as saying.

In another incident, two people were killed and three others were injured in an accident in Sylhet city, reports our local correspondent.

A truck driver and his helper were killed on spot as the driver lost control over the vehicle and crashed with a roadside tree, Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station said.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
