Risha killing: Obaidul gives confessional statement

Obaidul Khan, a youth detained in Willes Little Flower School student Suraiya Akter Risha murder case, today confessed stabbing her, which led to her death.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib recorded the statement of Obaidul Khan, 29, at his chamber for over three hours, sources said.

After recording the statement, the magistrate sent him to jail.

In his statement, Obaidul told the magistrate that after failing to pursue her in a love affair, he committed such offence which led the student to death, court sources said.

Inspector Ali Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced Obadul before the magistrate.

On Thursday, a Dhaka court placed Obaidul Khan on a six-day remand for allegedly murdering Suraiya Akhter Risha.

Earlier, police arrested Obaidul Khan from Domar upazila in Nilphamari on Wednesday, August 31.

Risha, a class-VIII student of the school, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on August 29, four days after she was stabbed in front of the institution at Kakrail in Dhaka.

Obaidul waylaid Risha on her way back from the school and tried to talk to her the day before he stabbed her on the Kakrail footbridge near the school.

Risha achieved GPA (Grade Point Average)-5 in her primary terminal examinations in class-V and was preparing to do equally well in the Junior School Certificate exams this year.
