Research on bees to increase honey production
Says Matia
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday urged the authorities concerned to increase the production of honey to meet the demand by inventing new species of bees through research.
She said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day “National Honey Fair” in the AKM Giasuddin Milki auditorium in the capital’s Farmgate, organised by the agriculture ministry.
Matia said the present government is giving an importance to honey production and the private sector is also playing a vital role in this regard.
A total of 60 stalls have been set up in the fair.
The ministry's Senior Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and former state minister AFM Fakhrul Islam, among others, addressed the inaugural function with Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Director General Mohammad Mohasin in the chair.
The event was informed that at present around 3,000 to 5,000 tonnes of honey is being produced in the country annually.
