Reintroduce 'carry on' system

Medical students continue to demand

Hundreds of medical students demonstrated in Rajshahi city yesterday demanding that the authorities reintroduce "carry on" system in professional MBBS examinations.

Students of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC), Islami Bank Medical College, Shah Makhdum Medical College and Barind Medical College formed a human chain in front of RMC for an hour from 11:00am. They also barricaded the road in front of the college.

They also brought out a procession and handed over a memorandum to the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon's office for delivery to the chairman of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.

The memorandum was also handed over to the principals of the medical colleges.

The students said under the "carry on" system students would be able to continue classes even if they fail one of the professional examinations, and sit for the exam again six months later.

When the system was scrapped in 2013, students who failed could not continue classes until they sat for the exam again, losing a year in the process.
