‘Rapist’ held in Dhaka

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have arrested the main accused in a rape case from Dhaka’s Dhamrai.

A team of Rab-4 arrested Billal, 19, around 6:00pm today from Sharifbagh area of Dhamrai, according to a press release of Rab-4.

He was the main accused in rape case filed with Savar Model Police Station on January 14, 2019, said the release.

On January 7, Billal allegedly abducted the victim with help of his cohorts and raped her after taking her to an unknown place, according to the case statement.

Later, on January 11, the accused left the victim in front of the rented house of her parents after they decided to hold an arbitration over the issue.

After the two sides failed to come to any conclusion over the matter in the arbitration, the victim’s father filed the case with the police station on January 14 and informed Rab-4 in this regard a few days later, the release read.

On information, Rab-4 conducted a drive in Sharifbagh area of Dhamrai today and arrested the culprit, it also read.

Legal step against the accused was underway, the release added.
