Rab rescues 2-day-old child, arrests 4 trying to sell it

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested four people for attempting to sell a two-day-old child in the capital's Shantibagh area.

The arrestees are Salma Akhter, 32, Anwara, 44, Md Babu, 35, and Saiful Islam, 35, said a press release.

In a primary investigation, the arrestees informed that the mother of the child was Bina, 19, of Badda area, whom Salma, convinced in giving up her child for his good upbringing.

A Rab aide feigning interest for the baby offered the gang Tk 100,000. After they struck a deal, the gang revealed the address of the house. A Rab team raided the house and rescued the infant. The infant was returned to his mother and undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
