Freedom fighter Habibul Alam, Bir Protik, was released hours after Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) picked him up from Eskaton in Dhaka today for reportedly having link to international money laundering gang.

“We released him around 8:35pm after interrogation into the allegation,” Kawsar Bin Kashem, commanding officer of Rab-1, told The Daily Star.

Rab members picked up Habibul Alam from his office in Eskaton around 1:00pm, Mufti Mahmud Khan, Rab's legal and media wing director, told The Daily Star earlier.

“An international gang is engaged in siphoning off money from the country. Based on information of having communication with the gang, Rab-1 picked up Habibul Alam for interrogation,” the Rab official said.

Habibul was a member of the special squad “Crack Platoon” that shook the confidence of the Pakistan occupation army and unnerved them using clandestine commando attacks during the 1971 Liberation War.
