Punish SI for 'torturing' BB official

Bank governor sends letter to IGP

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman, in a letter, yesterday urged Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque to ensure trial of the policeman, who allegedly tortured an official of the central bank.

Atiur, in the letter, requested the IGP to ensure exemplary punishment for the sub-inspector after an investigation so that no BB official or general people become victims of torture in the future.

While talking to The Daily Star, BB General Manager AFM Asaduzzaman confirmed that the letter had been sent.

Golam Rabbi, an assistant director of the central bank, was tortured allegedly by police in the capital on Saturday night.
