A truck ran over a student demonstrating for road safety in Shanir Akhra in the capital at around 9:30am yesterday, angering the protertors further.

Fortunately, Faisal, a 12th grader of Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj, escaped with only injuries as the wheels of the truck went over his lower body, his family said.

A viral video of the incident shows Faisal, 18, trying to stop the truck. At one point, the driver drove straight towards him.

He was first treated for injuries to his lips, hip joint and left leg at a hospital in Narayanganj. He was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors said he was out of danger.

Faisal's father Shamsul Alam said, “You have seen how my son was run overs. What is the point of demanding justice? I am just thankful to God that my son is alive.”

Police said they were trying to seize the truck and arrest the driver.
