Bangladesh Muktijoddha Projonmo League, a pro-Awami League organisation, today allegedly attacked and foiled a rally formed by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) protesting attacks on BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s during election campaign in Dhaka.

Jasas, the BNP's cultural wing, hold the rally in front of Jatiya Press Club also protesting women assault on Dhaka University during Pahela Baishakh celebration.

“A group of Projonmo League men led by its president Fatema Jaman Sathi rushed to the spot around 12:00pm and snatched our banners,” claimed Khaled Enam Munna, general secretary of Jasas city (south) unit.

They also asked Jasas activists to leave the place immediately, he said.

The attack took place while Shaukat Mahmud, an advisor to BNP chief, was addressing the rally as a chief guest.

Munna further claimed that police remain silent during the attacks, which was denied by a sub-inspector performing duty on the spot.

The SI, Moinul (full name could not be known immediately), said they tried to pacify both the groups during the chaos.
