Pro-AL panel sweeps registered graduate polls for DU senate

The pro-Awami League Gonotantrik Oikya Parishad swept the registered graduate election for the Dhaka University (DU) Senate.

The panel bagged 24 out of 25 posts while the BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Parishad got only one post.

Election Commissioner DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Nasreen Ahmed announced the result after counting the ballots at the seminar room of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university this afternoon.

The winning representative of Gonotantrik Oikya Parishad were Ataur Rahman, Maksud Kamal, Mohammad Fariduddin, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Bahalul Mojnun, Mohammad Abdus Samad, Zeenat Huda, Asim Sarkar, Iqbal Arslan, Sadeka Halim, Mahfuja Khanom, Tazin Aziz Chowdhury, Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Enamul Huq, Liakat Hossen, Mohammad Alauddin, Syed Humayun Akhter, Ranjit Kumar Saha, Ramendu Majumdar, Abm Badruddoza, Nizam Chowdhury, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Bari and Nasir Uddin.

The election to choose 25 representatives to the university senate, the highest policy making body of the university, was held in three phases in and outside of Dhaka.

The first two phases were held on January 6 and 13 respectively outside Dhaka and the third and final phase of the poll was held on last Saturday in three centres of DU campus where at least forty four thousand voters cast their ballots.

In the last election in 2013, Awami League-backed panel Gonotantrik Oikya Parishad won 18 posts while BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Parishad got seven seats.
