President assents to two bills

President Abdul Hamid yesterday assented to two bills recently passed in parliament.

The bills are Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable Property Bill, 2017, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.

On September 12, parliament passed the first bill to empower courts to refer some disputes to legal aid officers to ease pressure on the overburdened judiciary. The second bill, passed on September 14, tripled the amount of compensation for land acquisition.
