Policy on mental health soon

Says Nasim

Development of clinical psychology education is crucial in the country to reduce mental health related problems, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim yesterday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the sixth Asian Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) International Conference that began yesterday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University.

The minister also said the government will formulate a new policy soon to develop mental health sector.

Department of Clinical Psychology of DU organised the conference in association with Bangladesh Clinical Psychology Society, Nasirullah Psychotherapy Unit and Asian Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Association (ACBTA).

The theme of this year's conference is “Mental Health Gap in Asian Countries: Scope of CBT”.

Inaugurating the session, DU Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman called upon the researchers, academicians and professionals to work together to develop mental health services for general people.

Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof Imdadul Hoque, President of Asian Cognitive Behavior Therapy Prof Jung Hye Kwon, Chairman of  the Department of Clinical Psychology of DU Dr M Kamruzzaman Mozumder, Chairman of Conference  Organising Committee Prof Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, Programme Director of Nasirullah Psychotherapy Unit Kamal UA Chowdhury and some other foreign delegates also spoke.

Around 400 academicians, researchers, clinical psychologists and medical professionals from home and abroad are participating in the two-day conference.
