Police impersonator held while extorting in Ashulia

A police impersonator was arrested while extorting money from different vehicles on Nabinagar-Chandra highway in Zirani area of Ashulia on Wednesday.

The arrestee -- Mehedi Hassan Jewel, of Daulatpur in Kushtia -- was a resident of Polashbari area of Ashulia.

Director of Dhaka Industrial Police-1 Shaminur Rahman said Mehide was arrested while he was extorting identifying himself as an assistant sub-inspector.

A fake police identity card and a police uniform, he was wearing, were seized from his possession, said Saminur, adding, Jewel was handed over to Ashulia Police after a case was filed.
