PIB to be brought under ambit of law

The cabinet yesterday approved the draft of the Bangladesh Press Institute Bill 2018 bringing the activities of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) under the ambit of law.

The approval came from the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The PIB used to be operated under a resolution of 1976 and now it is being brought under the ambit of law, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam told reporters.

Under the proposed law, the PIB will provide training to journalists and public relations officers of different government agencies, he said.

Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of Health Directorate, Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Dr Md Ehteshamul Huq Choudhury, General Secretary of BMA, Dr M Iqbal Arslan, President of Sadhinata Chikishak Parishad, MA Aziz, General Secretary of the Parishad, were present, among others.
