Photography exhibition on Buriganga begins

The fifth solo photography exhibition of Fojit Sheikh Babu, a photojournalist of the Bangla daily Alokito Bangladesh, started at the capital's Alliance Française yesterday with a view to creating awareness on saving the Buriganga river.

The exhibition "Save the River Buriganga", inaugurated by Prof Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman, will continue until December 24.

Prof Anisuzzaman said human activities like dumping of waste materials and chemicals was responsible for pollution in the Buriganga and other rivers, which must be stopped soon to save them.

He also said such exhibitions will help aware the people on saving once the mighty River Buriganga.

"I decided to save the river by protesting pollution and illegal occupancy," said Babu. World University Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury, noted artist Shahabuddin Ahmed and Lt Gen (retd) Harun-Ar-Rashid Bir Protik were present.
