Padma Bridge: Expansion of 55km link road starts

The construction work for expansion from two lanes to four lanes of 55km Dhaka-Bhanga highway via Mawa known as Padma Bridge Link Road started yesterday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the work near Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Quader told reporters that this project will be completed together with the construction of Padma Bridge.

It will be the first ever expressway without having any traffic crossing, he said, adding that there will be two separate lanes on the both sides of the road for slow-moving vehicles.

There will be five metres median strip in the middle of the road where a metro rail will be constructed in the future, he added.Four flyovers, four railway overpasses and 21 underpasses will be constructed under the link road project to be implemented by the Special Works Organisation of the Bangladesh Army. Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker, engineer-in-chief of the army; Brig Gen Md Ahsanul Kabir, director general of the Special Works Organisation-West; Col Iftekhar Anis, project director; and Md Shahin, upazila chairman of Keraniganj, were, among others, present at the inaugural ceremony.
