One confesses to gang-raping Garo woman

One of two men arrested over the gang rape of an indigenous woman in the capital recently gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court yesterday in the case filed with Bhatara Police Station.

In the deposition recorded by Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashikur Rahman, Ashraf Khan alias Tushar said he and Jahidul Islam Lavlu, now on a 10-day police remand, lured the woman offering jobs.

They forced her into a microbus in Kuril bus stand area on May 21 and took turns committing the crime in the moving vehicle, he said, adding that there was no other person. The victim in her statement said there were five perpetrators.

The two drivers of a garment buying house at Gulshan were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion on May 27. The next day, three people gave judicial statements as witnesses saying the duo on May 22 had bragged to them about the crime.
