Observance of int'l day of indigenous peoples sought

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, which is observed on August 9, has to be celebrated in the country, demanded some indigenous organisations yesterday.

The demand came at a rally at TSC on the Dhaka University campus.

Showing solidarity with them, Syed Abul Maksud, a columnist and researcher, said, “As a member of the United Nation, it's a duty of the state to observe the day, but Bangladesh's government doesn't do so.”

Organised by Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, the rally was joined by Garo Student Union, Khashi Student Union, Bangladesh Adivasi Chhatra Sangram Parishad, Tripura Students Forum, Bangladesh Orao Chhatra Sangathan, Youth Age Agent of Social Change, and Indigenous Student Union.
