Nur Hossain shown arrested in graft case

Sued for amassing wealth illegally; concealing information of property

Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case was shown arrested yesterday in a graft case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).   

Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui passed the order after ACC Assistant Director Abdul Wadud, also the investigation officer (IO) in the case produced Nur Hossain before the court.

On August 1 2016, the anti-graft watchdog filed a case with Ramna Police Station against Nur Hossain and his wife Roma, for amassing wealth illegally worth Tk. 5.3cr and concealing information additional Tk. 3.62cr.

Nur is accused in almost a dozen cases, including one filed over the killing of seven people in April 2014.

Nur, the then ward councillor of Narayanganj city, allegedly bribed Rab for killing Nazrul, with whom he reportedly had a long-standing political feud.

Lawyer Chandan and his driver were killed as they happened to witness the Rab men abducting Nazrul and his associates.

Immediately after the murders, Nur fled to India. However, he was arrested in Kolkata in June 2015 and charged with trespass and possession of an illegal firearm.
