Now dowry case against cricketer Sunny filed

Cricketer Arafat Sunny was sued again yesterday by a 23-year-old woman who claims to be his wife alleging that he demanded Tk 20 lakh from her as dowry.

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Sunny on a one-day remand in another case filed earlier this month by Nasrin Sultana, the woman, under Information and Communication Technology Act.

After hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Raihan Ul Islam summoned the cricketer to appear before the court on April 5.

According to the complainant, Sunny demanded the money six months after Nasrin and Sunny got married on December 4, 2014.

On Nasrin's refusal, Sunny verbally abused her and left her, she claimed.

Meanwhile, Sunny denied the claim of marrying the woman, said Md Yahiya, investigation officer of the case, filed under ICT act.

“However, Sunny admitted that he knew the woman and they were friends once,” he added.

Sunny's brother Faysal Rana told The Daily Star that a vested quarter is conspiring against the promising cricketer.

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE SEEMS TO BE FAKE

The Daily Star found no marriage registrar's office at 20/B Meradia, Khilgaon, Dhaka, which is mentioned in the marriage certificate the complainant earlier produced before the court in support of her claim.

Besides, none named Anwar Hossain was found in the area, who, as per the certificate, registered the marriage.

Md Salim Ullah Khan, the designated marriage registrar in Meradia, said he never had any office at the place.

Seeing a copy of the marriage certificate, he said it was not prepared by him and was looking like a fake one.

However, there is a marriage registrar named Anwar Hossain in Goran.

When Nasrin was called over the phone repeatedly to know about the certificate, she did not respond.
