Nor’wester lashes Dhaka

A nor’wester with rain and thunderstorm lashed Dhaka this afternoon, disrupting the livelihoods of the city dwellers.

The seasonal storm hit around 6:00pm with a downpour that has already inundated different areas in the capital.

A number of trees have been uprooted by the storm on Manik Mia Avenue, including two large ones in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The road also went under water due to the rain, reports our staff correspondent from the site.

Met office recorded 12 millimeters rainfall so far till 6:00pm in Dhaka, according to its website.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes are also likely to occur at a few places over Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions with hails at isolated places over the country, the forecast read.

Two farmers killed in Habiganj lightning strike

Two people were killed by lightning strike at Sujonpur village in Latai upazila in the district, news agency UNB reports.

The deseased were identified as Nakul Mia, 55, son of late Abdul Kadir and Apan Mia, 30, son of Delwar Ali of Sujonpur village.

They were working in a local paddy field while thunderbolt struck them, killing both on the spot, said Latai Upazila Chairman Arif Ahmed Rupom.
