Among the hopefuls -- organising secretary Murshidur Rahman Akanda, vice-president Ariful Islam, joint secretary Mithun Kumar Kundu and activist Abdullah Al Mamun are students of 38th batch under 2008-09 session, whose regular studentship has expired two years ago, said university sources.

If any student under this batch failed to sit in the exam, he/she would get a second chance. But, no students of the previous batches have valid studentship any longer as per the university rules.”

Many aspirants were also controversial and involved in beating up journalists, rivals and extortion, alleged students.

One hopeful Akanda was an accused in a case filed with Ashulia Police Station under arms case after he was allegedly caught by the law enforcers from Maulana Bhasani Hall in 2013. He was released afterwards.

On November 22, a BCL group led by him allegedly beat up a campus-based reporter. Akanda denied the allegation.

On June 8, some BCL men allegedly beat up a campus reporter while he was trying to rescue a young woman from an alleged abductor who is a relative of Abu Sufian Chanchal. Chanchal denied having any connection with the incident.

“No controversial or invalid student will get post in the upcoming committee,” said BCL Central President Saifur Rahman and sought journalists' cooperation regarding this.
