Journalists today demanded removal of the Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu for not forming the ninth wage board for the newsmen as per their prior ultimatum.

Earlier on July 18, they issued a 12-day ultimatum to Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu to form the ninth wage board, or else they threatened to besiege the secretariat on July 30 (today) demanding resignation of the minister.

The journalists under the banners of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) organised the rally near the Secretariat in Dhaka around 11:45am.

Before holding the demonstration, they brought out a procession from the Jatiya Press Club in favour of their demand around 11:30am.

Speakers of the journalists associations are now giving speeches, our staff correspondent reports from the spot.

During a demonstration held on July 18, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, president of a faction of BFUJ, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently in a journalist rally had expressed her support to form the wage board. “But instead of taking measures to form the wage board, the information minister is serving interest of the vested quarters.”
